Abstrakt: This paper presents the application of ‘Performance Based Practical Design’ (PBPD) methods to Danish infrastructure projects. PBPD is a decision-making process developed by the US Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and this paper adapts the process to the standards and regulations of Denmark, resulting in the development of a comparative tool for selecting project options. The tool was tested on the E45 highway in Jutland, which is to be widened from four to six lanes. Civil structures along the highway are identified and the constraints they offer to the road layout are determined and implemented in the tool. A rating for each cross-section is determined, enabling users to compare several cross-sections with regards to a project specific baseline and site-specific constraints and ensure a robust qualitative and quantitative process.
